Taperoo
The median house price in Taperoo increased 9.6 per cent to $246,000 over the 12 months to November 2006, with a 10 year trend of 12.1 per cent.
Located approximately 18 kilometres north-west of Adelaide’s CBD, Taperoo is a middle/outer beachside suburb that neighbours the Port River. The general area around Port Adelaide has experienced significant growth in recent years due partly to the impending redevelopment of the historic town and waterfront. When completed in mid-2007, the Port River Expressway road bridge will divert heavy vehicles away from Port Adelaide’s historic town centre. Other features of the area include the North Haven Marina and an attractive coastline.
House prices in Taperoo are typically lower than neighbouring suburbs due to the style of housing, which was mainly constructed in the 1950’s and 1960’s for the SA Housing Trust. Negative locational factors of the area include the heavy industrial activity which occurs along the Port River and Outer Harbor. Premium values are achieved for properties located on the beachside (western) of the suburb.
Robe
The median house price in Robe increased 13.7 per cent to $290,000 over the 12 months to November 2006, with a 10 year trend of 15.5 per cent.
Located 350km south-east of Adelaide, Robe is a historical seaside town with a population of 2,500 situated along South Australia’s Limestone Coast wine region. During the summer months the population swells with holidaymakers. Local attractions include the abundance of seafood, Limestone Coast wineries and unspoilt coastline.
Robe has been a popular holiday destination for South Australians for decades. In recent years, Victorians have discovered the attractions of the area, partly due to it’s proximity to the Victorian border (100 kilometres west). In comparison with many of the expensive overcrowded coastal towns in Victoria, Robe is an attractive alternative for retiring baby boomers seeking a sea change.
